OVN (Opportunity Village Nepal) or Shuba Awasar Gram Nepal has been established and working since 2055 BS (1998 AD) that advocates for the rights of women and children, their economic and social justice, prevention of child labor, child marriage, human trafficking and promotion of girl child education.  Moreover, the organization has been actively responding since post-earthquake 2015 delivering diverse type of services to the most affected population through rescue, relief, medical assistance, psycho-social intervention and rehabilitation work.


The main goal the organization is to provide opportunities in the areas of education and vocational training for the underprivileged based on the five years strategic plan developed for 2018 – 2022. The focus of its programs continues to be on prevention and on protection, rehabilitation and reintegration of human trafficking victims and vulnerable children, youth and women who are trafficked and particularly at risk of being trafficked or abused including those who are forced to work and are sexually exploited.  In accordance with the principle of the rights to participation, women, children and adolescents have been included in most of the relevant organizational activities thus ensuring that they are involved from designing, developing, managing and monitoring as well as evaluation of different programs and projects.


OVN is now seeking an experienced Director with commitment for women and children, high drive for results, integrity, demonstrable teamwork, good self-awareness and self-regulation, to oversee the implementation and development of its new program approaches and development. 

As Director, s/he shall lead, manage and advance the organizational objectives and the mission of OVN to serve the poor and vulnerable. Her/his strategic leadership shall enable to advance OVN’s reputation and impact while proactively managing all aspects of the OVN and its programmes in Nepal. The Director shall play an important role in leading the team of OVN in implementation of all its programmes in collaboration with the programme, finance and administration departments and should be a highly motivated and entrepreneurial individual who is excited by the opportunity to play a central role in the implementation of OVN Nepal strategic plan for 2018 – 2022.


And as the Director, s/he shall represent OVN as a core member of programming team and will oversee the development and strategy of all program operations of the organization.


Main responsibilities:

The position entails overall management responsibility of OVN along with Program Manager and Finance and Administration Manager. S/he needs to work closely with government and non-government counterparts and will also be responsible for future development of the organization in close consultation with the OVN Board President and in overseeing day-to-day coordination of the staff. 


The Director shall lead the OVN program in Nepal, the mission partners and shall be overall responsible for implementation of all programs and administration. S/he is responsible for coordinating with the Management committee and is a link between the OVN Executive Governing Body, Management Team and the staff.  S/he commits her/himself to contribute to a greater impact of OVN’s mission and is accountable to beneficiaries, government, donors and partners. Furthermore, the Director shall ensure to design projects and maintain regular communication with donor and all stakeholders, liaison with government and external representation.


Qualification and competencies:

§  Master’s Degree in Social Sciences/Public Administration, or equivalent Degree;

§  8+ years of relevant professional experience in managing organization/programs at national or international level on community development and/or civil society projects;

§  Previous experience or understanding of the NGO sector in Nepal;

§  Proven organizational management skills with experience in managing staff of multiple projects with a Result Based Management Approach;

§  Experience in Nepal and within the region and understanding of local dynamics is highly preferred;

§  Familiarity with conflicts settings, experience with working in insecure environments is of significant advantage;

§  Strong critical analysis and problem solving skills;

§  Fluent and strong in English and Nepali both spoken and written;

§  Strong interpersonal skills and mentoring skills to work effectively with partners/clients;

§  A background in research, analysis, and policy, with a track record of developing strategies;

§  Demonstrated success in project cycle management, planning, financial management, program monitoring, report writing, and identifying and procuring technical assistance;

§  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills;

§  Experience in data processing (Microsoft Word), spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel), E-mail, and Internet browser software;

§  Creative and visionary leadership and staff management skills, with a record of managing large, diverse teams;

§  Effective management and delegation skills with ability to motivate the team and decision making;

The position will be based in Kathmandu Office of the OVN with frequent travel to project sites and branch office of OVN.
